25 Things I’ve Learned in 25 Years, as Told by Books

To celebrate turning 25 I wanted to share 25 life lessons as told by books. A lot of these quotes are from my all-time favorites, and others are from books I’ve read in the past year since finding my way back to reading. I’ve explained a little about the lesson in each quote, but some of the quotes just simply speak for themselves. Either way, there’s (hopefully) wisdom to be imparted, so get reading! … More 25 Things I’ve Learned in 25 Years, as Told by Books

Not-a-Review: Caraval by Stephanie Garber

Caraval is the story of two sisters, desperate to get away from their cruel father’s rotten-plummy stench. The sisters find themselves swept up in the magic of Caraval. Only the novelty quickly wears off for Scarlet as the stakes of the game are raised and she finds herself in a game of depravity and wits—of which she seems to have neither—that she must win, or face the dire consequences. … More Not-a-Review: Caraval by Stephanie Garber

Dog Names Inspired by Harry Potter

In case you’re in the market for names that you can actually choose, here are twelve pet names inspired by Harry Potter, in no particular order, ranging from the seemingly normal (unless your love for Harry Potter is as deep as mine) to the outrageous. I conjured most of these with dogs in mind because, well, I own dogs. But some of the names in the list, if not most, could definitely work for any animal! … More Dog Names Inspired by Harry Potter

Not-a-Review: The Zookeeper’s Wife by Diane Ackerman

Another book brought to my attention by a movie trailer. What do you expect from a recovering TV addict?

The Zookeeper’s Wife is about Jan Zabinski, director of the Warsaw Zoo, and his wife, Antonina. The book depicts, from Antonina’s POV, their bravery, compassion, empathy, and outright heroism, towards both animal and human alike, during the Second World War. … More Not-a-Review: The Zookeeper’s Wife by Diane Ackerman

Meet Tala!

This is Tala. Short, stumpy, and 100% duntzy doggo. She came to our family six months ago, after her mother stopped nursing her and her siblings. The early separation from mom made for a pretty anxious, equally cuddly, pup. At just 5 lbs, she was the runt of the litter. But who’s really surprised by that? I mean, look at her. … More Meet Tala!

Spring Book Haul

If I wanted to go out and buy a book I usually have to drive at least an hour away, and that’s just to get to a used bookstore. The closest Indigo bookstore is a 3 hour drive away. Yeah, I know, books are sold in chain and grocery stores, but unless you’re into harlequin romance or you want to read what was on the best seller list two years ago, you’re not getting much in my town. You might get lucky. I usually don’t. … More Spring Book Haul

Hi Friends! Intro + My CR & TBR List

Welcome to my hopefully-not-a-trainwreck attempt at blogging! The name I use for writing is Jessica Poer. It’s not a drastic change from my real name, just a tiny tweak to make it a smidge less generic. I’m an almost (might-as-well-say-it-now) 20-something year old living in the middle-of-nowhere in Canada. I’m an avid reader (rediscovering the avid), a makeup enthusiast, a fit-ish girl, a dog mom of three, and an aspiring author. … More Hi Friends! Intro + My CR & TBR List
